If you live with others, you probably already know, it can be complicated. But getting organized together can also be incredibly rewarding.

The process can help you learn to support each other in the space. Plus, when you get organized together, you share ownership over the upkeep. When everyone is bought in, your systems for staying organized can stick so you don’t need major overhauls.

Below are questions to help facilitate the conversation between everyone who lives together. We recommend writing out your answer to each question and then talking about your responses.

1. What does home mean to you?

2. If a cabinet door is left open, would it bug you or would you not even notice?

3. How does a cluttered or disorganized space make you feel?

4. If someone in your household sees an issue that you need to deal with, how and when would you like them to let you know?

5. Do you prefer to set up chores evenly?

6. Is it important to you that things are just done or done right?

7. Name three things you love about your home and three things you might like to change.
